Please read these Terms of Use carefully before using our website or any of our digital platforms. By accessing or using thefashionlawinstitute.org, you agree to be bound by these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use our platforms.

01 About Us & These Terms

These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the websites and digital platforms operated by the Fashion Law Institute Africa ("FLI Africa", "we", "us", or "our"), including thefashionlawinstitute.org, the AFODRC platform, Fashion Business Africa, and Beauty Law Africa (collectively, "the Platforms").

FLI Africa is a legal education and policy institution registered in Nigeria, with offices at Suite D14, 87 AOS Mall Surulere, Lagos, Nigeria.

By accessing or using our Platforms, you confirm that you are at least 18 years old, that you have read and understood these Terms, and that you agree to be bound by them. If you are using our Platforms on behalf of an organisation, you represent that you have authority to bind that organisation to these Terms.

02 Use of Our Platforms

2.1 You may use our Platforms for lawful purposes only and in accordance with these Terms.

2.2 You agree not to:

  • Use the Platforms in any way that violates applicable Nigerian law or the law of your jurisdiction
  • Use the Platforms to transmit any unsolicited commercial communications or spam
  • Attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of the Platforms or any system or network connected to our Platforms
  • Introduce any viruses, malware, or other harmful code to our Platforms
  • Scrape, harvest, or systematically extract data from our Platforms without our prior written consent
  • Reproduce, duplicate, copy, sell, or exploit any part of our Platforms without our express written permission
  • Impersonate FLI Africa or any member of our team or misrepresent your affiliation with any person or entity
  • Use our Platforms to harass, abuse, defame, or harm any person or organisation
  • Post or transmit any content that is defamatory, obscene, offensive, or otherwise objectionable

2.3 We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your access to our Platforms at any time if we believe you have breached these Terms.

03 Our Content & Intellectual Property

3.1 All content on our Platforms — including text, articles, research publications, policy briefs, legal guides, graphics, logos, images, audio, video, data, and the design and structure of the Platforms — is owned by or licensed to FLI Africa and is protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws.

3.2 FLI Africa grants you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to access and use the content on our Platforms for your personal, non-commercial use only.

3.3 You may not, without our prior written consent:

  • Reproduce, republish, redistribute, or sell any content from our Platforms
  • Use our content for commercial purposes
  • Remove or alter any copyright, trademark, or other proprietary notices
  • Frame or mirror our Platforms on any other website

3.4 Academic citation of our publications is permitted with proper attribution to the Fashion Law Institute Africa. For all other uses, please contact us at info@thefashionlawinstitute.org.

3.5 The FLI Africa name, logo, and all associated marks are trademarks of the Fashion Law Institute Africa. You may not use these marks without our prior written consent.

04 Legal Information

Important Disclaimer — Not Legal Advice

The content published on our Platforms — including articles, guides, policy briefs, research reports, and other materials — is provided for general informational and educational purposes only. It does not constitute legal advice and does not create a lawyer-client relationship between you and FLI Africa.

You should not rely on any content on our Platforms as a substitute for professional legal advice tailored to your specific situation. Laws vary across African jurisdictions and change over time. FLI Africa makes no representation that the content on our Platforms is accurate, complete, or current in any particular jurisdiction.

If you require legal advice, please book a consultation with our Fashion Legal Clinic or seek advice from a qualified legal practitioner in your jurisdiction. A legal consultation booked through our Clinic does create a service relationship — see the Clinic-specific terms for details.

05 Paid Services & Transactions

5.1 Certain services on our Platforms are provided on a paid basis, including legal clinic consultations, masterclass registrations, legal document purchases from the Legal Toolbox, AFODRC registrations, and event registrations.

5.2 All prices are stated in Nigerian Naira (₦) unless otherwise specified. Payments are processed securely by our payment processors (Paystack and Selar). By making a payment, you agree to the terms of those payment processors in addition to these Terms.

5.3 All sales of digital documents and downloads are final. Refunds for digital products are not provided except where the product is materially defective or was misdescribed.

5.4 For event and masterclass registrations, our refund policy is as follows: cancellations made more than 14 days before the event will receive a full refund; cancellations made 7–14 days before the event will receive a 50% refund; cancellations made less than 7 days before the event are non-refundable. FLI Africa reserves the right to cancel or reschedule events. In such cases, a full refund will be offered.

5.5 FLI Africa is not responsible for any fees charged by your bank or payment provider in connection with transactions on our Platforms.

06 User-Submitted Content

6.1 Where our Platforms allow you to submit content — including complaint forms, registration forms, contact forms, research submissions, or newsletter responses — you warrant that such content is accurate, truthful, and does not infringe the rights of any third party.

6.2 By submitting content to our Platforms, you grant FLI Africa a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to use, reproduce, and publish that content for the purposes of providing our services — including processing AFODRC submissions and responding to enquiries.

6.3 You are solely responsible for the accuracy and lawfulness of content you submit. FLI Africa is not liable for any content submitted by users.

07 AFODRC Platform

The AFODRC platform is governed by its own Rules of Procedure in addition to these Terms. By submitting a complaint, registering a business, or participating in AFODRC proceedings, you agree to be bound by the AFODRC Rules of Procedure.

All participants in AFODRC proceedings are subject to confidentiality obligations. The AFODRC does not provide legal advice — parties are encouraged to seek independent legal representation.

8. Third-Party Links & Resources

Our Platforms may contain links to third-party websites, resources, and payment processors. These links are provided for your convenience only. FLI Africa does not endorse, control, or accept responsibility for the content, privacy practices, or terms of any third-party site. We encourage you to read the terms and privacy policies of any external sites you visit.

9. Disclaimers & Limitation of Liability

9.1 Our Platforms and all content and services are provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. FLI Africa does not warrant that our Platforms will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free from viruses or other harmful components.

9.2 To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, FLI Africa excludes all liability for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, or special loss or damage arising out of or in connection with your use of our Platforms or reliance on any content published on our Platforms.

9.3 Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits FLI Africa's liability for fraud, death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or any other liability that cannot be lawfully excluded.

10. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless FLI Africa and its directors, staff, advisors, and contributors from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses — including reasonable legal fees — arising out of or in any way connected with your use of our Platforms, your breach of these Terms, or your violation of any applicable law or the rights of any third party.

11. Governing Law & Jurisdiction

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. You agree to submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Lagos, Nigeria in respect of any dispute arising out of or in connection with these Terms, subject to FLI Africa's right to seek urgent relief in any jurisdiction where necessary.

12. Changes to These Terms

We reserve the right to update these Terms at any time. Updated Terms will be published on our Platforms with a revised effective date. Your continued use of our Platforms after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms. If changes are material, we will take reasonable steps to notify you.
